History of Westhills Baseball

Westhills Baseball was started in 1969 with $1,300, an 8 1/2 acre lease from the city and a plan to be the "it" baseball facility in the West San Fernando Valley. Known as "Mini Dodger Stadium" by the LA Times, it is much more than just a piece of land with 5 baseball diamonds on it. It is a second home for everyone that plays here. It is often said, where in these times could you go and take your kids and not worry other than Westhills. The community that we have here is unlike anything anywhere else.

In the fall of 1969, the goal was to turn 368,260 square feet of uneven, rock-filled, twig-strewn, stump laden, hard packed dirt into playable field within 4 months, if the 1970 spring season was to be a reality. Now our goal is to provide a quality, developmentally appropriate baseball program that will enhance a child's physical fitness, social skills, self-confidence, and establish sportsmanship within our players. We have the opportunity to teach our children lessons that will not only be relevant on the field but off.

Today the success of our program is thanks to all of you! The parents, the many volunteers, and the board members who put countless hours of their time and energy into our program. With all of your help our players go on to fill the rosters of the local high schools, major colleges, along with minor and major league teams. Yet our proudest accomplishment here at Westhills, is the sense of community and friendships we build.
