Westhills Baseball Seasons

Fall Season

While Fall baseball at Westhills is focused on development, teams are formed through an open draft, uniforms issued, a full schedule developed, and playing rules enforced, with two umpires assigned and new game balls provided for each game.

For Shetland Division and higher, players attend an evaluation to demonstrate skill in batting, fielding, and running, plus pitching and/or catching if the player desires. Team managers observe and evaluate.

From first practice to the last game, the season runs from September up to Thanksgiving. There is one game per week, played on Saturday from Shetland Division through Colt.

Rosters may be from 11 to 13 players per team, depending on enrollment. All players are in the batting order. In Pinto and above, only nine players are in the field when the other team bats, but managers will rotate the others in during subsequent innings.

Teams switch sides if five runs are scored during a team's at bat in an inning. Game scores are not recorded and standings are not kept. Despite this, the games are not mere practice games or "scrimmages". Players will get the full experience of competing in a proper baseball game every week.

Practices are scheduled and run by each manager for his or her team. Generally the convention in fall is to practice one day per week.

Trotters and Champions play their games on Sundays.

Spring Season

Our Spring Season runs from early February, starting with spring training games, through late May each year. Before daylight savings time games are held only on Saturdays; afterwards, teams will play one weekday game plus one on Saturday.

The same playing rules are followed, except there is no five-run inning limit. Game scores are recorded and will be posted on this website, with standings. Spring Training games do not count towards the standings. The regular season, with as much of a balanced schedule as practicable, runs into early May. Rained out games will attempted to be made up before the last scheduled regular season games.

At the end of the regular season, Pinto Division and above hold a Championship Tournament based on a double elimination bracket. All teams qualify for their Division Tournament, with seeds and byes based on regular season standings.

As in Fall, Trotters and Champions play on Sundays.
